26 riders were determined to make the most of a rare sunny day by smashing themselves as hard as they could around the 3.75km course before sending their team-mate off for more of the same. The short laps meant riders had just enough time to get the pulse rate back down to a safe level before it was off on another lap with legs now full of lactic acid.

The “Bush Turkeys” consisting of Drew Gilchrist and dark horse Scott Thompson took out the race by just under three minutes from early race leaders Eric Horspool & Justine Leahy. “late nights” team members Jules Crawshaw & Tim Parkes managed to pull themselves together long enough to hold onto third place completing 8 laps in an impressive time of 1:23:37.

Ian & Numa Warbuton showed that a month of skiing is a good form of cross training, but it was Evan Jeffery who took the cajoling of his team-mate, Helen, and team name, “faster evan”, to heart and dominated with the fastest three laps of the day. With Justine setting the fastest 4 laps of the girls, perhaps we could learn a thing or two from them clocking up an extra 50km riding to & from the race!!

Thank you to everyone who came along to make it a fun & friendly day on and off the bike, also to chef Tim & Geoff for timing. Remember to keep an eye on the website calendar for details of upcoming events. With only two months left until the Armidale 12hr (12 March) & Port Macquarie 6/12hr (20 March) races it would be good to think about getting teams sorted and some good miles in the legs.
